Using a Surrey disposal bin

Trash King rents DIY roll-off bins. You load the bin, then call when it’s ready for removal or when you need a dump and return. For a quote, just tell us about the project, and we’ll help sort out materials and volume.

Sorting matters. Concrete, dirt and drywall/gypsum each need their own bin, and shingles usually need their own bin because they are heavy. Mixed construction waste can go in together as long as the load meets the receiving facility’s rules.

What size for this Surrey project

Trash King’s trash bins come in 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 and 40 yard sizes. Heavy loads (dirt, concrete, shingles) often need a smaller bin even when the pile looks large. Many reno and construction jobs use a 15-yard bin, 20-yard bin or 30-yard bin. We match the truck path and weight first; upsizing only helps when the pad and material both support it. On active construction sites, say whether the bin will sit inside the site fence or must use City property — that single detail changes both size advice and whether a TOP is in play.

  • Suite or garage cleanout — often 10–15 yard.
  • Home reno — commonly 15 or 20 yard.
  • Roofing — weight-sensitive; call to size.
  • New construction — 20–40 yard when the site allows.
  • Concrete / dirt — smaller bin preferred; we’ll size it with you.

Permits for street or boulevard placement

Surrey’s Traffic Obstruction Permit covers bins on a roadway, boulevard or other public property, and the City encourages using private property, like your driveway. That makes your own driveway or pad the best spot for the bin. You control the parking, so nobody blocks it in, and it’s usually closer for loading than the street. If any part of the bin will sit on a roadway, boulevard, lane or other City property, you need the City’s Traffic Obstruction Permit (TOP) first. You apply for it yourself, and Trash King never applies for one or helps with it.

Check the City’s current requirements before you choose a public spot. Strata councils and property managers may also have their own rules for bins.

Surrey access and placement checklist

A few access details help us plan the drop, and we’ll go through them with you when you call.

  • A firm driveway, parking pad or other level surface is best. Tell us if yours is unfinished, soft or sloped.
  • Overhead wires, branches or balconies along the approach or over the drop point are worth a mention so we can plan around them.
  • The delivery truck needs room to turn. That matters most on a cul-de-sac or a narrow residential street.
  • It helps to clear parked cars and other obstacles from the approach, turning area and bin spot.
  • If the truck has to use a lane, alley or shared access route, tell us and we’ll work through it with you.
  • Get strata or property-manager approval before using a shared driveway, lane, parkade or common area.
  • Tight approach? A quick photo lets us help plan the placement before booking.

Our track and pulley system helps with safe drop off and pick up. That system can’t make an unsuitable surface or a restricted approach safe, so send the site details early.

Where Surrey loads go

Loads don’t all go to the same place. Mixed construction waste goes to a licensed facility that accepts the load. Concrete and dirt go to specialized facilities, not a general transfer station, and drywall/gypsum goes to a gypsum recycler. Examples include Eco-Agg’s Surrey site for clean concrete, Super Soil in Surrey for clean soil and New West Gypsum Recycling in New Westminster for drywall/gypsum. Trash King also uses other licensed facilities. Whether a facility takes a load depends on the material, contamination, the vehicle and the facility’s rules, so ask us which stream fits before you load.

Surrey neighbourhoods and local access notes

Whalley

A renovation in Whalley might involve a suite, a parkade, a shared driveway or a strata-controlled loading area, not a simple private driveway. If strata or property-manager approval applies, get it before booking, and we’ll look at truck clearance and the route to the drop spot with you. A smaller bin often suits a suite cleanout or room renovation. Keep drywall/gypsum separate, and give concrete, dirt and usually shingles their own bins because they are heavy. If access is tight, a photo of how the truck reaches the building helps us plan the drop.

Guildford

In Guildford, the bin may need to go on a driveway, a shared lane or a strata-controlled area. Tell us who approves that spot, and we’ll plan the truck’s path with you. For a garage cleanout or interior renovation, a 10 to 20 yard bin can be a reasonable option, depending on the material and access. Heavy loads stay out of the general debris, which means separate bins for drywall/gypsum, concrete, dirt and usually shingles.

Newton

Newton’s commercial and industrial areas can have wider approaches, with more vehicles moving through. Tell us whether the bin is for a house, a shared residential property or a worksite, and we’ll plan around lanes, parked vehicles and turning room. Landscaping and excavation debris adds weight fast. Dirt and concrete need separate bins. Drywall/gypsum does too, and shingles usually do. Mixed renovation waste goes in its approved stream. For heavy material, a smaller bin is generally the better pick, even when the pile looks modest.

Fleetwood

In Fleetwood, newer construction and exterior projects can come with unfinished surfaces, temporary access routes or several trades sharing one frontage. Check the pad, the overhead clearance and the turning space before delivery, and get strata approval if a shared area is involved. Plenty of household renovations and cleanouts fit a 15 or 20 yard bin when the site allows it. Heavy materials take different planning. Plan on one bin for concrete, another for dirt and another for drywall/gypsum, plus usually a separate one for shingles.

Cloverdale

In Cloverdale, access might be a straightforward driveway or a long approach, a shared lane or an acreage entrance, so tell us about the surface, slope and turning room. If the truck can reach the pad, a larger bin may fit a substantial renovation or construction cleanup. Extra capacity is no reason to combine heavy materials, though. Concrete gets its own bin, and so do dirt and drywall/gypsum. Shingles usually do as well. You arrange any permits the job requires.

Surrey FAQs

Do I load the bin myself?

Yes. Bin rental in Surrey is DIY, so you, your household or your own crew do the loading. When the bin is ready, call for removal or a dump and return.

What size bin is suitable for a Surrey renovation?

Trash King offers 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 and 40 yard bins. Home renovations and cleanouts often use the 10 to 20 yard range. A bigger construction job or site cleanup may need more capacity.

Weight changes things. Concrete, dirt, shingles and other heavy materials usually need a smaller bin than a similar-looking pile of light debris. Tell us the material, the volume and the access, and we’ll help match the size.

Can I put mixed construction waste in one bin?

Yes, if it’s accepted as a mixed load. The exceptions are concrete, dirt, drywall/gypsum and usually shingles. Each of those needs its own bin and must not be mixed with the others or with general construction waste. Call us before you load and we can get the bin and disposal stream right together.

What items are usually not accepted?

Mattresses, freon appliances, TVs and paint/chemicals are usually not accepted. Liquids, propane, asbestos or materials that might contain asbestos, tires and other restricted items are not accepted in this stream. Unsure about an item? Set it aside and call us, and we’ll find the right route.

Can the bin go on my Surrey driveway?

Usually, yes. A private driveway or suitable private pad is the preferred spot. The City’s bin permit covers roads, boulevards and public property, and you control the parking. We’ll go over the surface, overhead clearance, turning room and parked cars with you before delivery. If any part of the bin has to sit on a roadway, boulevard, lane or other City property, you need a TOP first.

Do I need a Surrey Traffic Obstruction Permit?

Only if part of the bin sits on a roadway, boulevard, lane or other City property. In that case, you need a TOP first, and you apply for it yourself. Trash King never applies for one or helps with it.

What should I do if access is tight?

Describe the driveway or pad when you call, including any overhead wires, slopes or lane access. Get strata or property-manager approval if you need it, and send a photo of the approach so we can plan the placement with you before the truck arrives.

How long can I keep the bin, and how do I arrange pickup?

Discuss rental terms when you request your quote. Call to arrange removal or a dump and return. Ask about current delivery availability when you call.
