Abbotsford's curbside system covers most weeks of daily life. A renovation, a large cleanout or a yard rebuild is different. Here is how the City's system works and where the surplus goes.
Your carts

Single family homes and duplexes get curbside pickup from the City of Abbotsford. The green compostables cart is collected weekly. The blue recycling cart and grey garbage cart are collected every two weeks, on alternating weeks. Carts come in 120, 240 and 360 litre sizes. The City says only the property owner can request an exchange, which you can do at 604-864-5640 or carts@abbotsford.ca.
The City is firm that all curbside material must be in a cart with a closed lid. Overflowing carts and loose or bagged material will not be collected.
When the cart is full

The City's Excess Waste page lists the options for each stream. If you regularly have more garbage or recycling than fits, you can ask for a larger 360 litre cart. For extra garbage, the City says you can drop it off for a charge at a number of locations in Abbotsford. For yard waste, it offers a larger cart, a second compost cart and a coupon program. Property owners who get curbside collection receive six yard waste coupons each year, and each coupon covers one free drop off at Pacific Coast Renewables Corp. The City also suggests mulching leaves and grasscycling.
Transfer stations and depots
These are the City's listed locations. Call to confirm hours before you go, as the City advises.

The City's Waste Wizard tool shows which depot takes which item.
When a bin makes sense
A bin is a different tool. For a renovation, a garage or shed cleanout, or a big yard job, a bin means one place to put everything, one delivery and one pickup, rather than many trips to a transfer station. We bring it, you load it, and we take it away. A 20-yard bin is where most people start. Heavy materials like concrete and dirt each go in their own 10 or 12-yard bin. Ask when you book about what suits your job.
Abbotsford is in our service area, along with Mission and the cities between them and Metro Vancouver. See our Abbotsford page. You do not need a permit for a bin on private property. If the bin goes on the street, you need a permit from the City of Abbotsford, and we will line delivery up with your permit dates.
