Maple Ridge handles waste a little differently from many Metro Vancouver cities. The City does not run curbside recycling, and residents choose their own garbage service. That makes it worth knowing which place handles which material. This guide uses the City's own page and Metro Vancouver's page to explain where to take what.
How Maple Ridge's system is set up

The City says Maple Ridge residents are responsible for managing their own waste disposal. Household curbside recycling comes through Recycle BC, and the Maple Ridge Recycling Depot is operated by Ridge Meadows Recycling Society. Residents can choose the garbage service that works best for their household. The City's page was last updated on July 15, 2026.
Curbside recycling through Recycle BC
The City says it does not provide curbside recycling. It is a service provided at no charge to residents by Recycle BC, a non profit funded by businesses that supply packaging and paper. Recycle BC has contracted Remple Disposal for curbside recycling and Waste Control Services for multi family residences. The City's page lists these sorting categories:
- Red or pink box. Flexible plastics, such as plastic bags and wrappers.
- Blue box. Plastic and metal containers, cartons and paper cups.
- Yellow bag. Paper and cardboard.
- Grey box. Glass bottles and jars.
It says paper, mixed containers and glass are collected weekly, and flexible plastics every two weeks. For missed curbside pickups, the City lists Remple Disposal at 778-503-1340. For multi family buildings, it lists Waste Control Services at 778-503-1341.
Maple Ridge Recycling Depot

Free recycling drop off is available at the Maple Ridge Recycling Depot, at 10092 236th Street. The City lists accepted items including electronics, small and large appliances, motor and cooking oil, Styrofoam, textiles, batteries, light bulbs, scrap metal and more. Its phone number is 604-463-5545. Check with the depot for the current list before you go.
For electronics, our electronics page covers where they go, and the depot is a local option.
Maple Ridge Recycling and Waste Centre
Maple Ridge residents can dispose of household waste and recyclables at Metro Vancouver's Maple Ridge Recycling and Waste Centre. It sits at 10092 236 Street, next to the depot. The City lists these hours: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in October to March and 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in April to September, and Sunday and holidays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on New Year's Day and Christmas Day. The City lists the phone number as 604-681-5600.
Metro Vancouver's page adds that:
- Many items can be recycled at the Ridge Meadows Recycling Depot next door, including batteries, electronics and small appliances.
- Recyclable materials should not be placed in the garbage.
- All loads must be off loaded by hand, and self tipping vehicles are not permitted.
- Mixed material loads are charged at the rate for the highest cost material. For example, a load with both garbage and green waste is charged at the garbage rate.
- Reuse options are not available at that facility.
- Accepted payment includes Visa, MasterCard, debit, Apple Pay and cash.
Fees are on the Metro Vancouver page. We do not repeat them here because the figures change.
Yard and garden trimmings
The City says residents can drop off grass clippings, branches and leaves at the Maple Ridge Recycling and Waste Centre, and that tipping fees apply. Check Metro Vancouver's site for details.
The organics ban
Under Metro Vancouver's Organics Disposal Ban, introduced in 2015 according to the City, Maple Ridge residents are required to compost food scraps and other organic materials. The City points to the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society for more information.
Private garbage service
The City says residents may contract private waste disposal services and points to a list on the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society's page. If you need a one time disposal, a bin is another option.
Illegal dumping
The City says it takes illegal dumping very seriously, encourages residents to report it and reminds everyone that proper disposal options are available through the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society's facilities.
When a bin is the better choice
For a normal week, curbside recycling and a private garbage service handle most things. For a big job, the depot and waste centre may take several trips. Think of a yard clear out, a basement cleanout or a reno.
Trash King drops off the bin and hauls it away afterward. You fill it. For junk, cleanouts and renos, the 20-yard is the common starting size. A 15-yard junk bin is at times available but is commonly sold out, so plan around the 20-yard. If you need another smaller size, ask when booking. Details are on the 20-yard bin page. If the job sounds larger when you call, we may suggest a larger bin.
Our Maple Ridge page covers local service.
Permits depend on where the bin sits. Putting the bin on private property, like your driveway or yard, takes no permit. If the bin has to sit on the street, boulevard or lane, check with the City first, since some cities need a permit. Your strata or HOA can still set rules of its own. If yours does, apply with the City, and we set delivery for any permit dates.
Some items can never go in a Trash King bin: paint, propane, tires, fuel and electronics. Check our what not to put in a bin page for the full list. In Maple Ridge, the depot and waste centre are the right places for many of those items. The City lists batteries, electronics and light bulbs among the depot's accepted items.
Mattresses and box springs are an add on with an extra fee, so mention them when you book.
