Richmond Hill chamber of commerce has new executive director
After an extensive search by the board of directors of the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce selection committee, Elio Furlan was appointed as the organization’s new executive director on Nov. 20.
“We are excited to work with Elio to continue to support our members and champion economic prosperity in Richmond Hill and ultimately improve the quality of life for the community,” stated the Hon. Bryon Wilfert, board chairperson.
Furlan brings to the chamber 20 years of business leadership in both member-based, not-for-profit and for-profit environments. He has held senior leadership positions with the Canadian Kennel Club, a national membership-based organization, and with Air Canada. He has a particular expertise in business operations, customer service and membership engagement.
He is also actively involved in community service with the Knights of Columbus and was a longtime Scout leader.
“I am thrilled be able to contribute to ensuring that Richmond Hill remains a vibrant place to live and do business,” said Furlan. “I look forward to meeting and working with all of the chambers members in the coming months to address their unique needs.”
The former executive director, Leslie Whidden, retired in September after 14 years at the helm of the chamber.
One opportunity this week to meet the new executive director and network with chamber members is the chamber’s Holiday Event, set for Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.
The Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce promotes and advances the interests of businesses in Richmond Hill.
