Because of the versatility of these materials, the ease of their production, and the fact that they can be recycled efficiently, they are used in everything from animal tags to airplane interiors. Where mass factory production was a dirty and dangerous business, the contemporary production line is composed of manned computerized and mechanical systems, strict safety protocols and the materials used are plastics. Injection molding, large part molding, structural foam, and web molding, compression, gas-assist, and others are commonplace. With a state-of-the-art sorting facility in Gifford and a top-of-the-line manufacturing plant in Delta, Merlin has an impressive infrastructure. RECYCLABLE PLASTICS

Plastics are incredibly durable materials of which hundreds of variations exist, and which necessitate specific recycling and manufacturing procedures. Following are the seven families of plastic that adhere to an industry-standard numbering system and for which we have provided some real-world context.

#1) PTE/PETE Polypropylene (water bottles)

#2) HDPE High-Density PolyEthylene (milk jugs)

#3) PVC Polyvinyl Chloride (plastic water pipes)

#4) LDPE Low-Density Polyethylene (bread bags)

#5) Polypropylene (water bottle caps, milk caps, etc.)

#6) PS Polystyrene (Styrofoam containers)

#7) Miscellaneous (gas cans, oil containers, 5-gallon water jugs, etc. and biodegradable plastics)

Aside from #7 plastics, the rest can be recycled. Styrofoam may need to be taken to the depot, depending on what forms your local trash team will accept polystyrene.
