Garage Conversion to Living Space: Door Infill and Insulation Waste

Garage door opening filled with new framing

A garage conversion mixes framing, insulation and finish waste. Bag the insulation and sort the drywall before the junk load.

Garage to living conversions

Old garage door panels and track beside insulation bags

Door infill, insulation and new framing make conversion debris. Old garage door hardware can go to scrap. Bag insulation before it goes in the bin.

Infill and coatings

Flow chart for a garage conversion: hardware to scrap, concrete to a heavy bin, the rest to a junk bin

Concrete chips from curb infill go in a 10 or 12-yard heavy bin. Paint and floor coatings go to a hazardous waste depot.

Phased bins

Size the first bin for demolition and the next for finishes. Drywall dated 1990 or newer is accepted. Older or undated drywall needs a lab report showing no asbestos. Tell us about door panel length when you book.

When a bin fits

We place the bin, you fill it, and we take it away when you call. Most jobs begin with the 20-yard junk bin. We also have a 15-yard bin, but it is often sold out, so ask when you book.

You do not need a permit for a bin on your driveway or yard. Some cities do need a permit for the street, boulevard or lane, so ask your City before booking. If you get dates, we will match delivery to them.

A junk bin is the wrong place for batteries, electronics, propane tanks, paint, solvents, pharmaceuticals or asbestos. Asbestos is never permitted in any Trash King bin. Search Metro Vancouver Recycles or call 604-732-9253 if you are unsure.

Our disposal bins and what not to put in a bin pages cover the standing limits.
