Delta residents have curbside collection, a Large Item Pick-Up Program and several drop off depots across Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. This guide summarizes what the City of Delta says on its pages, and where a bin fits when the job is bigger than the program. See our pages for Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen.
Curbside recycling
Delta says residential properties receive weekly recycling collection, funded by the annual recycling utility. It follows Recycle BC's sorting rules. Newspaper and flyers go with mixed paper and cardboard in the Yellow Bag, glass bottles and jars go in the Grey Bin, and plastic bags and foam containers are not accepted in the Blue Bin. Materials must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. Delta's recycling page says curbside recycling is collected on the same day as garbage and Green Cans.
Recycling drop off depots

For items that cannot go curbside, such as plastic bags, overwrap, foam packaging and other flexible plastic packaging, Delta lists these depots:

Large Item Pick-Up Program

Delta says its Large Item Pick-Up Program is a way for residents to dispose of large bulky items such as sofas, washing machines, ovens and mattresses. Residents who receive curbside garbage collection can have up to four large household items collected per year, and the count restarts each January 1. Pick ups are scheduled through Remple Disposal at 604-835-1792 or largeitempickup@rempledisposal.com. Items placed curbside without a scheduled pick up will not be collected.
The City's restrictions include:
- Items must be handled by two people.
- Items go out by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day, not before.
- Mattresses and box springs must be dry, wrapped in plastic and securely sealed.
- Upholstered furniture must be dry.
- Items must be in one piece, and not cut or broken into smaller pieces.
- Small items are not accepted, and a combination of items cannot be bundled to equal one large item.
Accepted items include mattresses and box springs, couches, chairs, tables, desks, wood bed frames, dressers, plastic patio sets, patio umbrellas, luggage, and metal items such as dishwashers, stoves, washers, dryers, barbeques, hot water tanks and refrigerators. Check Delta's page for the full list.
Mattress recycling voucher
Delta says mattresses are prohibited from garbage disposal in Metro Vancouver and that its Mattress Recycling Voucher program allows residents to take up to two mattress units to the Vancouver Landfill for recycling at no charge. Each household is eligible for one voucher per year. To apply, contact 604-946-3260 or engineering@delta.ca. Proof of residency is required.
Batteries
Delta lists battery drop offs at city facilities, including Ladner City Hall, the North Delta Recreation Centre, Sungod Recreation Centre and the South Delta Recreation Centre. Single use and rechargeable batteries are both accepted. Batteries never go in a Trash King bin.
Renovation and construction waste
Delta's Large Item Pick-Up page lists construction, demolition and home renovation materials as not accepted in the program. Its list includes counter tops, plumbing fixtures, kitchen cabinets, drywall, toilets, bath tubs, sinks, wood (clean or treated), floor coverings, concrete and roofing materials. For those, a facility run or a bin is the route.
You handle the loading. Trash King delivers the bin and takes it away. The 20-yard is our usual starting size for junk, cleanouts and renos. A 15-yard junk bin is at times available, though it is commonly sold out, so plan around the 20-yard. Other smaller sizes? Ask when you book. More is on the 20-yard bin page.
No permit is needed for a bin on private property, like your driveway or yard. Some cities need a permit for a bin on the street, boulevard or lane, so confirm with the City before you book. Your strata or HOA can still set rules of its own. If yours does, apply with the City, and we set delivery for any permit dates.
Leave paint, propane, tires, fuel and electronics out of the bin. They never go in a Trash King bin. Our what not to put in a bin page lists the rest.
Need to get rid of a mattress or box spring? It can go in as an add on for an extra fee. Mention it when you book.
