Metro Vancouver's solid waste system has nine facilities, and not all are open to residents with a car or small truck. This directory lists each one, gives its address and describes who it serves, based on Metro Vancouver's Disposal Ban Program Manual and its Recycling Depots and Facilities Directory. For fees, always use each site's own page. If you are weighing a dump run against a bin, see our dump run vs bin rental guide. Our disposal bins and drop-off bins pages cover the bin option.
Two sets of rules

Two bylaws set fees, depending on who runs the site. The City of Vancouver runs the Vancouver Landfill and the Vancouver South Transfer Station, and those follow the City's Solid Waste By-law 8417. The other sites are Metro Vancouver sites that follow Metro Vancouver's Bylaw 379. Each site has its own fee and surcharge page, so use that page for current rates instead of a general figure.
Metro Vancouver's manual says loads received at Metro Vancouver and City of Vancouver facilities are visually inspected for banned materials, and surcharges apply if banned materials are present beyond set thresholds.

Check the details before you go
Hours, accepted materials and fees change. Use these pages:
- The City of Vancouver's landfill page and transfer station page for hours, fees and the materials each accepts
- Each Metro Vancouver centre's page, which lists hours, vehicle restrictions, payment methods and the free recycling list
- Metro Vancouver's real time closure notices. It offers a text sign up at 778-655-9200 with the message JOIN.
Metro Vancouver lists vehicle restrictions on its centre pages, such as a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 7,500 kg and a maximum vehicle length of 7.6 m for the North Shore recycling depot. Check the page for your site.
What each site can turn away
Metro Vancouver's manual lists banned materials for garbage loads, including recyclable materials such as cardboard, recyclable paper, containers, yard trimmings, food waste and clean wood, along with hazardous items, propane tanks, mattresses, gypsum, tires, paint, electronics and more. The manual says single objects over 100 kg, 2.5 metres long or 1.2 metres wide are also on the banned list. Check the full list in the tipping fee bylaw.
When a bin is the better option
A drop off site needs a vehicle, time and loading and unloading. For a bigger job, a bin brings the disposal to you.
The bin comes to you from Trash King, you load it, and Trash King hauls it away. For junk, cleanouts and renos, the 20-yard is the common starting size. A 15-yard junk bin is at times available, but it is commonly sold out, so plan around the 20-yard. Other smaller sizes? Ask when you book. If the job sounds larger when you call, we may suggest a larger bin. You can read more on the 20-yard bin page.
On private property, like your driveway or yard, a bin takes no permit. A street, boulevard or lane spot is different, since some cities need a permit for it. Confirm with your City before you book. Strata or HOA rules may still apply on top of that. If yours does, apply to the City for the permit, and we will line delivery up with any permit dates.
Some items can never go in a Trash King bin: paint, propane, tires, fuel and electronics. Check our what not to put in a bin page for the full list.
Need to get rid of a mattress or box spring? It can go in as an add on for an added fee. Mention it when you book.
